2012 has been one heck of an adventure. Looking back I have had an awesome year. This is my last blog for the year as I get on a plane tomorrow and I am headed to Rome, Paris and London. I am super excited for what lies ahead in my travels but also 2013. I launch my brand next year as a “solo artist”. I will be going on my own and will be launching Matt Nixon-James Photography. This is something I am ready for and very excited about. It would not be happening however for my mentor, friend and fellow series; Thea Cogill of Tink Photography. I have spent the last 1 and a half years working as her assistant and we have had a blast. I have learn’t everything I know from her. From basic composition to work flow to running your own business, Thea has schooled me very well. I leave Tink a better photographer but more importantly a better person and that is all thanks to you, T!
Tomorrow is the beginning of a new era for me. I am truly blessed to be on this road and I cannot wait to see where it takes me. Stay tuned for some photographs of my travels on my return. Thanks for all your support and encouragement. See you soon. Ciao
I recently had the absolute privilege of photographing Rob and Mel’s special day. If you cast your mind back to the weekend of the 1st of December, rain will come to mind. Not just normal rain, but solid torrential downpour rain. However, I woke up on the morning of the 1st, and opened my window to a wonderful day and was super grateful. When chatting before the wedding Mel was very keen to have beach and city themes and so that is exactly what I did. The beach that I originally wanted to shoot on was closed off to the public and so we had to trek through some public beaches. We had some interesting encounters with some local football fans but it simply added to the adventure. Photographing these two was an absolute pleasure, they were fun, easy going and up for anything. I have gathered a few of my favorite images from the day as a little sneak peak into this special couples wonderful day. Enjoy…. PS: best jumpers ever!

Once again I am catching up on my blogging… This time it is an amazing birthday party for little Ella. She is one of the most precious children I have had the pleasure of photographing. We had a wonderful tea at Green with Envy.. She arrived a little bit early and so i managed to capture some really cute moments.. She was also dedicated by her parents in a very moving ceremony. Here are some of my favorites… Enjoy…

This is a very long overdue post. My sister has just finished school but I really wanted to post a few photographs from her Matric Dance. She is one of my best friends and holds a very special place in my heart. So here is a taste of what was an amazing night! Enjoy…

For most people, looking back on the 15th of September 2012 will remember the crazy amount of rain that fell that day. I will remember it as the day I drove in that rain to Richards Bay, to photograph an awesome family on their farm. My journey was adventurous as I got stuck in mud twice and had to be towed. However I finally arrived covered in mud to have the most fantastic afternoon with the wonderful Hall family… Here are a few of my best moments… Enjoy…

Fun. Crazy. Family. These are three words that describe this amazing family. Kobus, Lisa, Alex, Jacob and Hannah are a real family. There is no false pretense just solid love for one another. We had lots of fun on a windy winters day. Little Jacob was self appointed creative director and his help and vision was invaluable. What a champ! Here are a few of my favorites. Enjoy…
